Today we traveled from Birmingham Alabama to Memphis, Tennessee to learn about the impact of rock and roll on the history of civil rights. We ate lunch at Elvis’s birth home in Tupelo and then got back on the road and listened to Billy’s classic rock and blues music that was made in, or impacted by, Sun and Stax studios as we cruised into Memphis.
After our jam session on the bus, we took a guided tour of Sun Studios where we got a chance to walk in the foot steps of musical legends such as Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash.
We got some free time to explore the culture surrounding the famous Beale Street. Afterwards, we learned about the history of rock and roll in the Smithsonian Museum of Rock and Soul. After dinner we headed to Alfred’s blues club for dinner and live music. It was fun to end the day with dancing and hearing some of our friends perform on stage with the band!
