Today was Earle’s, our bus drivers, birthday, and to celebrate we went to the Grand Canyon in Arizona.
I don’t think that the word grand does the canyon justice. Instead it should be called the king canyon. There’s a line in the song “I Just Can’t Wait to be King” where Simba sings “I’m gonna be a mighty king so enemies beware.” I think this line fits the Grand Canyon perfectly because of its might. We hiked along the North Rim fro a mile and a half. We stopped along the way to look at the beautiful views.
At one point, Billy stopped us and spoke about how sitting in silence looking out at the Canyon could help put whatever problems we may be thinking about into perspective. He then had us go on our own to sit on the ledge in silence.
Sitting on the ledge of the canyon made me feel like an insect in the grass. In other words, I felt really small compared to the massive Grand Canyon. People think that they are bigger than life sometimes. At the canyon, I realized the importance of being humble and helping others.
When we got back to the hotel we had free time and then went to dinner.
After dinner Billy had us watch a documentary called ” I Am.” The movie was all about the connections that people have with each other. This documentary demonstrated the importance of respecting our community and care for each other.
