MINDTRIPS is a monthly online lecture/discussion series curated by Etgar 36. Each month MINDTRIPS will host experts who will address some of today’s hottest topics. While each session stands on its own, the series follows a narrative showing us ways to create a more perfect union. Each program is live but can be accessed for 5 days after the program date.
AUGUST 9 – DARYL DAVIS – “How can you hate me if you don’t know me?”
Daryl Davis is an African American blues musician who has befriended members of the KKK. Learn the power of a conversation to take someone from the “Other” to “Another”. Daryl was recently featured on CNN’s “The United Shades of America” and a documentary called “The Accidental Courtesy”.
AUGUST 30 – TERRA GAY – “Systemic Racism. We are all connected”
Once someone becomes “Another” we can engage in each other’s struggles. Our narrative continues with Terra Gay, head of Change and Transformation Consulting, and takes the conversation deeper to better understand systemic racism that is so ingrained in this country that many of us aren’t even aware that we engage in it.
SEPTEMBER 13 – JOANNE BLAND & FAIR FIGHT 2020 – “Your Vote Is Your Voice”
As we build a connected community we will start to look towards the upcoming election. Joanne Bland was 11 years old when she crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge in the March For Voting Rights on what became Bloody Sunday. We will also hear about the modern fight for voting rights by discussing voter suppression with Fair Fight 2020.
OCTOBER 18 – EVAN WOLFSON – “Win the hearts and minds of America”
When working on an issue, legal victories don’t change the hearts and minds of America. Evan Wolfson, President of Freedom To Marry, will share the lessons and teach us the tools and strategies he learned over the 30 years of doing this work which culminated in the 2015 Supreme Court decision. The documentary “Freedom To Marry” tells his story.
NOVEMBER 15 – RUTH MESSINGER & TBA – “Post Election Analysis”
We will analyze the recent election with Ruth Messinger, Progressive political activist and former head of the American Jewish World Service, and a prominent Republican politician/activist to be announced soon.
DECEMBER 13 – MAYA ENISTA SMITH & THE BORN THIS WAY FOUNDATION – “Mental Health Check”
The end of the year holiday season presents mental health issues in best of times, and this year may be more difficult. Maya Enista Smith, Executive Director of Lady Ga-Ga’s Born This Way Foundation which has been doing work in mental health, will have a conversation with us on how to take care of ourselves, family and friends.
MINDTRIPS is an online lecture/discussion program that you can enjoy from the comfort of your own home on your computer. They are live streamed and include an interactive Q&A/discussion with the featured speaker. Our first series is 6 programs from August – December, 2020.

A day before each event you have registered for, you will receive an email with your unique hyperlink code. This link will bring you into the discussion. You need to have the Zoom app and account to watch the episode. Please do not share your link with anyone, as it will only be valid for one device. The webinar room will be opened fifteen minutes before the scheduled event. EACH PROGRAM IS LIVE!
