Day 19 – San Francisco

by Abigail Fishman

We got up this morning and had breakfast at the hotel just outside of Los Angeles. We then got on the bus and started towards San Francisco. At around 10:30, we got stopped in Santa Barbara and had lunch. Although it was early for lunch, it was fun to check out the town.

After another hour or two on the bus, we stopped at a beach called Avila beach to hang out by the water. It was beautiful. We got back in the bus and rode 5 more hours to San Francisco. We arrived and checked into the hotel. It was very fancy. We went to our rooms for about five minutes and then headed to dinner.

Billy set up a really nice dinner for us in Chinatown at a restaurant called House of Nanking. The food was delicious. After dinner, we walked a couple blocks to City Lights Bookstore, the location where the first paperback book was published and where the Beatnik poets such as Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsburg got their start. After roaming the bookstore, we walked back to the hotel and spoke about what we have in store the next few days in San Francisco.
